The name Sarah Michelle Gellar is synonymous with great television shows. She was the first to put vampires on the map as the star of the cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and now she’s back as Bridget and Siobhan (yeah, that’s right, two characters) in the CW hit Ringer. But there was a life for Gellar before her vampire slaying days.
Gellar, the vampire assassin ass-kicker, was once a more emotional actress. She won the role of Kendall Hart on All My Children (Buffy on a soap?) in 1992. Before her dramatic life in the soap opera world, Gellar was a child actress; in the early 80’s she sold Whoppers for Burger King in a commercial attacking McDonald’s. Who wouldn’t switch sides and buy a Whopper if the adorable Sarah Michelle Gellar told you to?
Thankfully, Gellar ditched the paper hat and mushy soaps for some stronger and more memorable roles. Gellar fell for dangerous roles like the vampire slayer, the crazy caregiver (The Grudge), the horny manipulator (Cruel Intentions) and the vain pageant queen (I Know What You Did Last Summer). Her love of blood and guts attracted her to these roles. Gellar says, “I’m always the one who gets killed. And I want it to be really gory. Body parts all over the place. Mangled!” That’s kinda weird, but we love her for it!
Wherever her career takes her next, we’ll be along for the ride. I hope we get to see more ass kicking and less of her blood and guts… lol. In the mean time, check Gellar out Tuesday’s at 9pm on CW44; here’s a little taste in the gallery below.
