Best and Worst Dressed at the Critics’ Choice Awards
Last night’s 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on The CW was a star studded event. Stars such as George Clooney, Jaime King, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, the cast of The Vampire Diaries and many more, were in attendance. As always at these award shows, I am interested in who wins what categories, but that’s for the T.M., CW44’s Couch Potato to talk about. What I am here to talk about is who looked the best and the worst at last night’s event. I mean isn’t that what these things are all about? Of course the honor and recognition from the critics is nice too, but no one wants to end up on the worst dressed list. This year there were a few hits, a few misses, lots of belted dresses and one star even showed up in no clothing at all (I’m not mentioning any names, Ted).
So let’s get started… the worst looks of the night… dun dun duuuuuun…
Elle Fanning is very sweet and talented and I hate to do this to her, but this Chanel dress is way off. Yes I said it… Chanel. Floral and white were all over the Spring 2013 runways but this dress does not work. To me, it looks like a house dress, not a Chanel dress. Not to mention, the shoes are pretty awful.
See here how this look was worn on the runway.
Television personality Carrie Keagan is confusing me a with this dress. First off, I’m not sure where I’m supposed to look first, her boobs, the large bow above her boobs or the collar above the large bow above her boobs? And is that material crushed velvet? This whole look is very matronly, minus the boob hole.
I can say a few nice things though…… her boobs look good….. yep I think that’s all I got.
Actress Famke Janssen is probably best known for her work in the X-Men series and while I am a fan of her on the big-screen, I am not a fan of this dress. It is ill-fitting and her hair is all wrong. Janssen’s body is amazing and this dress is not doing it any justice. It looks like she put on some yoga pants underneath the dress to avoid the all over sheerness and it pulls your eye to largest part of her body. Also, her hair is styled wrong, the dress is too busy on top to have her hair down and over the shoulder like it is.
I do believe there are ways to make this dress look better, but she is styled all wrong. Sorry Famke, better luck next time.
Come on Ted, not even a bow-tie?!
Now on to the best dressed of the night, my favorite part, and this year there was no shortage of amazing looks.
Emmy Rossum definitely pulled off how you do blue and sheer in this Carolina Herrera dress. Take note Famke.
Marion Cotillard is wearing my favorite look of the night. The Zuhair Murad tea-length party dress with a floral sequin overlay is so unexpected and absolute perfection. It fits her like a glove and is styled impeccably with a nude clutch and statement heels.
Hart of Dixie star Jaime King is stunning in this belted Jason Wu dress. She definitely brought it, if you know what I mean. The sheer gown with side cutouts, delicate straps and boy shorts underneath is the perfect amount of skin to sex up the red carpet without over-doing it. The old Hollywood waves in her hair and the red lip send this look over the top.
Jennifer Lawrence can do no wrong in my eyes. While this isn’t my absolute favorite look of the night, I do think that she looks gorgeous in this black silk and leather gown by Prabal Gurung.
The Vampire Diaries cast at the Critics’ Choice Awards:
While they may not have made my best dressed list, I still have to give some love to my CW peeps.
Nina Dobrev is sparkly and on-trend in this emerald Monique Lhuillier dress.
