It’s the countdown to Valentine’s Day, time to make sure you have the perfect dress, the perfect hair and of course the perfect manicure — only the best for our men! Although the man in my life may not care what my nails look like on the 14th of February, I am always looking for a reason to doll myself up. I had a lot of fun writing this post because if you ask anyone I’m a nail freak. It’s fun to switch things up and be a little daring sometimes, –it’s only nails so it’s really easy to do.

I searched the web, I DIYed and also had a little fun in Photoshop coming up with some new nail ideas. So from simple to over-the-top, here’s our top manicure ideas for this Valentine’s Day.

This one is a little over the top and doesn’t seem very easy to replicate, but I do like the idea of it. I recommend getting this done at a salon for best results.

Get this look:

Tools-

  • White nail polish
  • Glitter nail polish
  • Clear top coat
  • Sponge
  • Nail polish remover
  • Q-tips

Paint all of your nails with the white polish and top with a clear coat. Take your sponge and lightly paint the polish on the side with the glitter polish. Apply the sponge with the polish to the top of each nail. This one can get a little messy, that’s where nail polish remover and a Q-tips will come in handy for the sides of your fingers when done. Top with a clear coat.

This one can get a little messy, that’s where nail polish remover and a Q-tips will come in handy for the sides of your fingers when done. Top with a clear coat.

Photoshop Fun

I didn’t have the time to do any other DIY’s, but I did put together some ideas and Photoshop-painted — I wish it was only that easy. However, I did try and keep the looks simple.

Tools-

  • Pink nail polish
  • White nail polish
  • Clear top coat
  • Toothpick
  • Painters tape — scotch tape works too
  • Scissors

Carefully paint each nail with your desired color, top with a clear coat and allow to completely dry. <— That is very important. When dry, fold a piece of painters tape in half and cut a half heart in the middle of the tape. When you unfold the tape you should have a perfect heart. Use that as a stencil for your nails. Apply your desired amount of hearts and then use the toothpick to add some dots around the hearts on the half of each nail. Top with a clear coat.

*In order for the dot’s to be larger, allow some paint to dry on the end of the toothpick before applying your dots.

Valentine’s Ombre

Get this look:

Tools-

  • White nail polish
  • Red nail polish
  • Clear top coat
  • Paper plate or bowl
  • Q-tips

I love this ombre look, but very few of us have all five colors to make this look work. Not to worry, we’ve got a trick for you… all you need is two colors, white and red. To achieve this look paint your pinky fingers white, then pour some white polish on a paper plate, add a bit of red and mix with a Q-tip, then paint your ring fingers with that color, add a bit more red to the polish and paint that color on your middle fingers and so on…  Apply the red polish on your thumb and top with a clear coat.

Note: When using different colored nail polishes always use a clear coat between colors to avoid bleeding or blending.
