With the superhero circuit rebooting yearly, the newest sequel shooting is The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Since the announcement of the sequel, the buzz is all over the next villain and the “secret” plot. Honestly, with the endless amount of comics about Spider-Man floating around, nobody cares about the plot. We care about who they choose to reprise these roles! Biggest shock: JAMIE FOXX AS ELECTRO. That’s right. The star of Oscar-winning film, Django Unchained, is appearing in this Spider-Man reboot. Long story short, Max Dillon (in the comics) gets into an accident with power lines and gains some electrical powers transforming Dillon into Electro. Rumor is that Electro’s original costume with the black and yellow will be scrapped for a look more like that of the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. Electro will be more sleek and black. Foxx will never be a yellow joke. Most likely he’ll need to be a somewhat powerful villain.
Also cast as another villain in the next Spider-Man is Paul Giamatti as The Rhino. So just like in the original Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man will face up against two villains in one movie. However, from reading their bios and participation within the Spiderman comics, these villains are nothing but petty thieves. How are two thieves going to threaten Spider-man? My theory, they won’t be doing it alone.
These villains might be working for a classic Spider-Man villain with mastermind means. Norman Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin, has been added to the line up as well for this sequel. American Beauty actor, Chris Cooper, has been cast as Osborn, but it is uncertain whether Osborn will be on the early brinks of becoming the Green Goblin or take the position head on. I am excited for this new direction for the Spider-Man flicks. And I’m ecstatic it won’t be a direct copy of the first Spider-Man franchise (plus Gwen Stacey.)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to release in May 2014.
What do you think of Jamie Foxx as a Spider-Man villain?
