Cinco de Mayo originated in Mexico. It is a Mexican holiday meant to celebrate the country’s win over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862… pretty serious stuff, huh?! Most of us, however, use this day in May as an opportunity to party hard. Why can’t we all celebrate? I say we can! So we put together a little list of Cinco de Mayo activities to keep your head spinning and your weekend exciting.
We began our search for Cinco de Mayo parties with a list of bars that partied hard last year. We are sure that they will be ready and willing to party it up again this year.
Gators Cafe & Saloon

If you are looking for more concrete plans this Cinco de Mayo, we set out to find what parties are happening this year.
Hard Rock Cafe
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will be party central for all things south of the border in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. $5 blackjack all day and food and beverage specials in all bars and restaurants. From 4 p.m. to midnight, there’ll be crunchy tacos and cheese quesadillas for only $5 and chips and salsa for $3. Wash it all down with a cold margarita or Corona Light for only $2.50 from 4 p.m. until 4am. Party band, The Current, will fiesta free on stage from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m., and DJ Chris Craze will keep the party going until 4 a.m.For more info visit: Seminole Hard Rock 5223 North Orient Rd
The Kennedy’s Cinco de Mayo fiesta will feature local and national DJs all night. There’ll be free admission and drinks until midnight for ladies 21 and over.
Because it is still early, most venues are keeping their Cinco de Mayo plans a secret until the big day… lame! But we want to be sure that you are fully prepared to party hard! Here is a list of Cinco de Mayo drink recipes from NocheLatina.com that are vital to your fiesta plans!
- 1.25 oz. Tequila
- 3 oz. Pineapple juice
- Splash of Cranberry juice
- 1 Pineapple slice.
- In an ice-filled glass, add tequila, pineapple, and cranberry juices.
- Garnish with a pineapple slice.
What You Need
- 1.5 oz. Tequila (We used 1800 Silver Tequila)
- 1 oz. Lemon juice
- 1 oz. Simple syrup
- 1 oz. Club soda
- 6 Mint leaves
- Muddle mint leaves with simple syrup in a tall glass.
- Add tequila, lemon juice, and ice. Shake vigorously and strain over ice.
- Garnish with lemon wheels.
What You Need
- 2 oz. Rum (We used Ron Abuelo Anejo)
- 1 oz. Triple Sec
- ½ oz. Lime juice
- 1 Lime wedge
- In a shaker filled with ice add all ingredients and shake vigorously.
- Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with a lime wedge
What You Need
- Tequila (Don Julio is amazing)
- Put ice in a glass
- Pour Don Julio
- Garnish with lime
- Sip and enjoy, toooo good to just shoot down!
