A few months ago, we reported that the much-anticipated Veronica Mars movie is a go (see story here). Not much has been discussed about the film, until now!
Shooting started at the beginning of June and it should premiere on February of 2014. Fortunately, the creator, Rob Thomas, was able to reunite most of the original cast to reprise their roles for the final goodbye to Veronica Mars. The film will take place during Neptune High’s 10 year reunion where all the characters will reunite once again and if you know Veronica Mars, you know there will be a mystery to solve!
When the project began, I was super excited because I am a huge “marshmallow.” I have been waiting for this movie for what feels like forever and I am so excited to see what happened to the characters that I grew to love so much.
But then I started thinking: is the movie going to be enough? Will it bring the closure that fans need? Could they take a cue from Arrested Development and make a new season exclusively for Netflix?
T.M., our Couch Potato and resident entertainment expert, reminded me of an important aspect about a possible new season. Unfortunately, Veronica Mars got cancelled for a reason. Although it had some loyal fans, there weren’t enough people watching the show. The other big problem… actors’ salaries. If ratings are low and actors want to be paid, the show falls apart. Okay, so maybe no new season…
The film is a go because of the loyal fans. Without the help of Kickstarter, the movie may not have happened. Is this the future of film? Are the fans going to be responsible for paying for movies to be made and then paying to see them, as well? Is it fair for the audience and fans to pay double to watch a story they are interested in watching? What do you think?
Well, fair or not fair, I am extremely glad that we have another opportunity to watch Veronica Mars in action again!
What other cancelled show would you like to see on Kickstarter? Maybe a movie for our CW series Reaper?
