Remembering Cory Monteith

If you’re a Glee fan, you’ve probably heard the unfortunate news that star Cory Monteith, better known as Finn Hudson, passed away this past weekend at the age of 31. The actor was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room after he missed his checkout time. He was found by hotel staff and, according to police, there was no sign of foul play.

What we do know is that the actor had struggled with addiction since the age of 13 and had recently gone to rehab after an intervention from his loved ones. Because of the high interest of this case, the police department put his autopsy on the fast track so that his loved ones and fans can finally have some answers. Many of his costars and friends have reached out through Twitter to remember the star and give condolences to his loved ones. Here are some of their touching reactions to the news of his death:

Kim Kardashian: “Just heard about the death of Cory Monteith. So sad. Prayers 4 his family. Praying 4 Lea too! Words can’t describe what they must be feeling.”

Katy Perry: “Rest in peace Cory. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. Our prayers are with you.”

Neil Patrick Harris: “How sad to read about Cory Monteith passing away. What a shame. He was a lovely, kind, talented guy and will be missed.”

Nina Dobrev: “I’m gutted. Shocked and saddened to hear the news, my heart goes out to Cory’s family and friends. Let’s respect their space as they grieve.”

Harry Shum Jr.: “At this time, please send nothing but love and light. This tragic news still doesn’t seem real to me. I love you Cory.”

Sophia Bush: “I saw him a few weeks ago in NY, looking so happy. heartbreaking…”

Kristin Chenoweth: “RIP Cory Montieth. You will be loved. Always.”

Ellen Degeneres: “My heart breaks for the friends and family of Cory Monteith. What a loss.”

Another touching reaction to the news was from his co-star, Matthew Morrison. Morrison dedicated his performance of Up Close And Personal With Matthew Morrison to Monteith. He reportedly came out on stage and told the audience, “You came out here to see a show, I came out to do one, so let’s honor Cory with this performance.” He even sang the song “What I Did For Love” in his honor during the show.

Missing from the reactions was Monteith’s on-screen and off-screen girlfriend, Lea Michele. According to reports, she’s inconsolable at this point in time. She released a statement requesting that she have “privacy during this devastating time.” Totally understandable, our hearts go out to her.

Fans of Glee have also reacted with an outpouring of love and support since the news broke of his untimely death. It’s left many of his fans wondering what will happen with Finn Hudson’s story line. Monteith was scheduled to return to Glee this coming season, but there haven’t been reports yet on what the show will do with his character. Many of his fans have been quoted on social media saying that “He didn’t die, he took a midnight train going anywhere,” in remembrance of the star and his character’s performance of Don’t Stop Believing. According to reports, Monteith was involved in three projects that are now in post-production.
