With the Fall season approaching quickly, I think it’s time to talk about cleaning out your closet to make room for new fashions. I’m a repeat offender of not getting rid of clothes that I haven’t worn in forever just because there’s a slight chance I might wear it again. But the truth is, a lot of the clothes I think I might wear again just end up collecting dust in my drawers. So here are some tips to help you get rid of the clothes that you’ll probably never wear again.
1. Turn your hangers around in your closet. I learned this trick from Pinterest ( I love Pinterest, it teaches me so much). If you turn the hangers in your closet around to face the opposite way, you’ll learn pretty quickly what you wear more of in a 3 to 6 month period. This takes a little bit more time because you have to wait a few months, but it will help you sort through the clothes you don’t ever wear. If those hangers are still turned in the opposite direction after 6 months, get rid of it! There’s no point in keeping it if you never wear it.
2. If it doesn’t fit get rid of it! If you try to wear something and it doesn’t look right on you it’s probably because you’ve outgrown it. Whether you have over worn it or you have lost or gained some weight, if something doesn’t fit right, it will just sit in your closet taunting and mocking you! My advice is that you donate these clothes that don’t fit or don’t look right so that someone else can enjoy it. Plus, with more room in your closet, you can treat yourself to some new clothes that make you look better than those old drabby clothes!
3. If you can’t remember the last time you wore it… you should probably get rid of it. If you’re feeling a little iffy about getting rid of a piece of clothing you haven’t worn in a while, put it on and figure out why you haven’t worn it. It could be because it doesn’t look right on you or maybe it just doesn’t work for some reason. Either way, if you feel weird about it after trying it on, you should definitely get rid of it.
4. If you avoid it every time you look at it. This is the best sign that you need to get rid of something that’s just sitting in your closet. If you don’t ever feel like wearing it or if it’s something you try on first before you find your real outfit, then it’s probably time to part ways with it. Trust me it’s going to continue sitting there being ignored so you might as well give it a new home with someone who will wear it.
It’s as easy as that! Take these tips to clean out your closet so you can feel more refreshed and ready for Fall fashion. Leave us a comment and tell us how you organize your wardrobe each season!
