Is Miley Cyrus Expressing Herself or Trying Too Hard?

People are having mixed reactions, to put it mildly, to Miley Cyrus’ racy performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. It seems everyone has an opinion about it, whether it’s positive, negative or plain old disgusted.

And it’s not only the folks at home talking about the performance, celebs are sharing their thoughts too. Adam Lambert tweeted on Monday, “Listen if it wasn’t ur cup of tea – all good but why is everyone spazzing? Hey – she’s doin something right. We all talkin.”

But notice, he did not say whether or not he actually enjoyed the former Disney star’s performance.

“Hold up!” the former “American Idol” runner-up later wrote. “I didn’t actually state whether or not I liked @MileyCyrus performance. I merely said she was having fun and to cut her some slack.”

A friend of Miley’s, Kelly Osbourne, offered this advice to the young starlet, “Look, Miley’s my friend and I love her, and I have her back no matter what, but as her friend I’m going to tell her – put your f–king tongue in your mouth! I love you, but just put your tongue in your mouth.”

One group who is not being vague about its feelings is the Parents Television Council.

It issued this statement condemning MTV for the racy content: “MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate ‘twerking’ in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds?”

The PTC’s criticism is particularly interesting because Cyrus’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, is also an advisory board member for the group.

The statement continued, “This much is absolutely clear, MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children.”
