Reign Is A Good Thing
In a little less than a month, CW will premiere their next hit show, Reign. If you haven’t already read about it, Reign is about 15-year-old Mary, Queen of Scots and her rise to power. Mary has lived an unusual life; she’s been constantly supervised since she was born, all of her meals were tasted for poison before she ate, and she’s been engaged since childhood to Prince Francis.
Like every show, there’s always things you like and things you don’t like. Since I love fashion and the way it has evolved, I really enjoyed their costumes. The show dates back to the 16th century so all of the ladies wore floor length dresses and bedazzled headpieces while the men wore white button ups, trousers and fur coats. I also found it interesting to see how they applied make up back in the 16th century. It was definitely a lot more complicated back then! Applying make up was like applying paint to a canvas… and I thought it took me a long time to get ready.
The things I didn’t like pertained to the time period. Can you image being engaged since childhood? Having no choice on who you have to spend the rest of your life with? No one should take marriage that lightly! It was normal in the 16th century to have an arranged marriage and to marry young. The show makes me realize how happy I am that we are free to make our own decisions when it comes to marriage and love.
All I can say is that I’m glowing with excitement over Reign and can’t wait to see where the rest of the season takes us. Will you be watching the Reign season premiere on Thursday, October 17th?
