The Sylvia Thomas Center for Adoptive and Foster Families provides vital support to adoptive families, most critically after the adoption has finalized but also when parents are in the adoption process, struggling to get the adoption finalized. It is estimated that approximately 4% of adoptions are dissolved after the adoption has been finalized and 14% of foster children placed in homes to be adopted end up back in foster care without being adopted. The Sylvia Thomas Center works to ensure that these children not only get a forever family, but that family is, in fact, forever. Founded in the year 2000, the Sylvia Thomas Center is the only organization providing comprehensive post-adoption support in Hillsborough County and one of the few throughout the state, and they have a better than 99% success rate in healing children and keeping these families together forever.
