Lana Del Rey Says New Record is ‘So Dark It’s Almost Unlistenable’

By Shannon Carlin

After having her hard drive stolen, welcoming a barrage of leaks in 2013, you can understand why Lana Del Rey isn’t being too forthcoming about the details of her upcoming album. But yesterday (Jan. 30), the singer did finally share a few little tidbits about what fans can expect from her follow-up to 2012’s Born to Die.

According to MTV UK, Lana revealed in a Twitter Q&A that her upcoming album, Ultra Violence, is finished and it is “beautiful.” She tweeted, “It is absolutely gorgeous – darker then the first – so dark it’s almost unlistenable and wrong. But I love it.”

Later adding, “And don’t worry you will love Ultra – it’s so wrong and exquisite.”

Lana reportedly recorded the album in Nashville with her Born To Die producer Emile Haynie and Dan Auerbauch of the Black Keys.

Like Dan [Daniel Heath, who co-wrote “Blue Jeans”], who’s not into pop music but rather, a composer for scores and studied under Hans Zimmer. Him and my boyfriend Barrie [Barrie-James O’Neill, of Glasgow folk-rock band Kassidy].”
