In our world full of constant selfies and instant status updates, not much is private or taboo. The Internet, along with endless social media platforms, gives us the opportunity to say and post almost anything… and we do.
The “taboo” debate has become increasingly prevalent recently. In the past few weeks, I feel like I have seen Rihanna’s nipples more than I have seen my own! With the Rihannas, the Miley Cyruses and the Beyoncés of the social world ready and willing to bare all, questions must be asked. Should Miley Cyrus ride a wrecking ball naked? Should Rihanna post her Lui Magazine nudey pics to Instagram? These were things once considered taboo that now seem mainstream.
Then, we see a post like this. Jaime King took to Instagram to post a very intimate moment. The photo (seen below) is not crude or overly revealing, but breastfeeding in public is viewed as taboo, and Instagram is very public. Should this photo be considered anymore taboo than Rihanna’s?
“#JamesKnight is now 8 months old! These are the moments a mother lives for. Breastfeeding should not be taboo- and bottle feeding should not be judged- it’s ALL fun for the whole family:)”
Is social media the right platform to display photos like this? Let us know how you feel in the poll below or leave a comment.
