Since the dawn of the maxi dress, I’ve always been on the fence about whether or not they should be a fashion staple. I feel this way because I wasn’t sure I could completely pull this trend off. But there was always a part of me that really wanted to try a maxi and see if it could hang with my laid back wardrobe.
I’ve always been a T-shirt and jeans kind of girl, but over the past few years I’ve become a huge fan of simple dresses, so it made sense that the maxi dress would creep its way into my wardrobe eventually. A few weeks ago, it happened… I went into Target looking for a maxi because I wanted to see if this trend could work for me. I was in the store when this adorable multi-colored striped number popped out at me. I had to try it on! It was like fashion love at first sight (okay maybe not that dramatic, but you get the point).
With one maxi dress in my arsenal, I realized what all the hype was about. They’re fun to wear, they’re flattering on anyone (seriously, I’ve never seen anyone look bad in a maxi dress!) and they’re perfect for any occasion. Some of our favorite fashion bloggers agree with the maxi trend and do it justice. Take a look at the ways these girls style a maxi↓↓
In the examples below, these ladies style their maxis very simply. The first maxi is decorated with chunky jewelery and wedges, but the other 3 decorate with simple and delicate jewelery. The addition of a denim jacket or vest can dress a simple maxi up as well. As Tara has mentioned on 44 On The Town, a button-up blouse over a maxi dress can multiply your wardrobe instantly (as seen in the last photo).
You can’t go wrong with a maxi dress. Trust me, you’ll be sorry if you don’t give this fashion staple a chance!
