A developer told CNN that he has 45 days to come up with a plan to save the birthplace home of Aretha Franklin. Jeffrey Higgs says an Environmental Court judge gave him until October 16 to present a preservation plan. The shotgun-style house at 406 Lucy Avenue in South Memphis was the legendary singer’s first home.

In recent years, the house has fallen into disrepair. Franklin’s family moved from Memphis to Detroit when she was around 2 years old.
